The Center for the Study of Natural Hazards and Disasters (Hazards Center), headquartered at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, conducts innovative research on natural hazards and translates the knowledge developed to practice. The Hazards Center is the research lead of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Coastal Hazards Center of Excellence (CHC). In coordination with the education lead, based at Jackson State University, CHC performs research and develops education programs to enhance the Nation’s ability to safeguard populations, properties, and economies from natural disasters.
